Description

Why restorative yoga?

In our accelerated and often agitated world, our nervous system and health are taxed by ever greater vigilance.

True rest is rare and undervalued.

Not only is it easy to forget our essential nature of Being that the yoga texts speak of, but the body-mind-heart’s natural restoration and healing processes are compromised. Exhaustion, anxiety, irritability and chronic, stress-related conditions are common. Students are increasingly requesting restorative yoga.

The receptive, inclusive practice of restorative yoga provides critical rest and helps to preserve our health and wellbeing. It has a profound impact on the functioning and resilience of our nervous system, internal organs and subtle body. Equally, it offers a reconnecting to our inner life, to the present moment and to the universal. It gives a taste of moksha (liberation) that is the bedrock of our presence, relationships and work in the world. The ripples of this run beyond what we can ever know.

For teachers, restorative yoga is essential. It balances the active with the contemplative in our practice and life, and enriches our intuition and creativity. It steadies and nurtures us when our resources are tested. It sustains our sadhana and what we are able to offer.

Who is this course for?

Tutor: Carol Trevor, E-RYT 500, YACEP, BWY Dip, MA, Advanced Relax and Renew® Trainer

Carol was first introduced to restorative yoga in the Iyengar tradition, by the late Caroline Cole in London. She is an Advanced Relax and Renew® Trainer, having subsequently trained with and assisted Judith Hanson Lasater. She continues her exploration through both avenues, personal practice and working with a diverse range of students.

Aware of the wider effects of self-compassion and teacher self-cultivation, Carol included sessions on restorative yoga as a tutor on teacher training courses in Cambridge and London from 2008. She teaches this much-needed practice in specialist trainings, CPD days, workshops, classes and one-to-one. She has taught 30-hour restorative trainings in-person, online and in a blended format. This is the second time this course is also being offered as a BWYT Module.

Carol began practising yoga over 30 years ago and qualified as a teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga in London. She is certified in yoga nidra (Bihar and iRest) and is qualified in sports massage therapy and injury prevention. Originally a linguist, yoga philosophy and meditation remain a source of inspiration and sustenance. She offers a collaborative approach to teaching and encourages curiosity, inquiry and autonomy as part of the process.

Feedback from previous course participants

It is always difficult to build a community when working online and Carol quickly achieved this through her calm and humble approach from the first greeting and throughout her teachings. Poses were explored, adapted and discussed allowing we, the students, time to consider our personal practice. Through a teaching approach, centred on the individual, came an understanding of how restorative yoga can be taken into the community. The first assignment focused on our personal practice which gave an opportunity for a deeper appreciation of the impact that restorative yoga can have on our daily life, but also allows future teaching to be from the heart. The course was well prepared and progressive and I especially liked the theory which gave a strong underpinning to our practice.       Lizzie Spalding

I was lucky enough to have Carol teaching me for my Restorative Yoga teaching qualification. She is compassionate and inclusive, organised and understanding, and her written materials to support our learning were excellent. The weekends were wonderful and eye-opening, as was the work we did with case study students. The whole qualification was very well thought-out and she ran it brilliantly. Since then I have enjoyed her teaching online in various classes and workshops where I greatly value her gentle and knowledgeable approach. I always feel safe in her hands!       Sabina

I’m glad that I did the Restorative Yoga teacher training module with Carol. She is a patient, calm, and conscientious tutor. It has deepened my understanding of Restorative Yoga and how to teach it effectively. It has also given me a great practice for my own self-care.       Julie Dodd

I highly recommend this BWY Restorative Yoga course as a way to learn about this wonderful approach to Yoga, especially for these times! Carol expertly enables her students to gain a deep understanding of the subject – learning the skills to fully incorporate it in their own practice, as well as to confidently and creatively share with their students.       Diane Robertson
