Stress touches all of us at some point. Chronic stress contributes or leads to a number of conditions such as insomnia, anxiety and digestive disorders. Restorative yoga helps us to manage stress in a gentle and profound way.
Here is a short, simple restorative yoga practice that leads us towards diaphragmatic or deep, belly breathing. This is the breath we were born with and the way we breathe when we are at our most relaxed. It brings us into parasympathetic nervous system dominance, or the 'rest and digest' state. This takes us towards homeostasis - physiological balance - the opposite of the fight/flight/freeze response we experience when stressed or anxious.
